Story-open hooks for fitness videos
A story open in fitness should start before the training, not during it. The interesting moment is almost always the decision, the injury or the morning — not the set.
It was 6am, minus 2 outside, and I was in the car deciding whether to go in.
Why it works. The temperature and the hour make it a real morning, and the decision is the part every viewer has lived.
The physio pressed 1 spot on my hip and I understood 8 months of pain in a second.
Why it works. A single point of contact resolving a long problem. The compression is what makes it worth watching.
Picture a kitchen floor, a phone timer set to 4 minutes, and no equipment at all.
Why it works. Three concrete objects, all of which the viewer already owns, which quietly removes every excuse.
I was 3 kilometres into a 5k when my legs made a decision without asking me.
Why it works. Personifying the legs is funny and accurate, and the distances make the moment locatable.
The gym was empty except for 1 man deadlifting in jeans, and he was outlifting everyone.
Why it works. An image that contains a whole argument about equipment and appearance, told as a scene.
It was week 11 and the first morning I got up without arguing with myself for 9 minutes.
Why it works. Measures the internal argument in minutes, which is the detail that makes the milestone feel earned.
My coach put 2 fingers on my shoulder and said do not move, and I could not.
Why it works. A physical demonstration promised in the first line. The viewer stays to find out what it proved.
There were 40 people in the class and I was the only one who had never been.
Why it works. Names the specific fear that keeps beginners out of rooms, using a crowd size they can picture.
It was a Sunday, I had eaten badly for 6 days, and I went for a walk instead of a plan.
Why it works. Rejects the restart ritual the audience expects, which is why they keep watching to see what happened.
The treadmill said 41 minutes and I had never been happier with a slow number.
Why it works. A number and an emotion that do not match. Resolving that mismatch is the video.
