Bold claim hooks for personal finance videos

A bold claim on money content has to be defensible in the next breath, because this is the audience most likely to check. Every one of these is followed by evidence you own.

  1. A budget you have to check every day is a bad budget. Mine takes 9 minutes a month.

    Why it works. Attacks the dominant method and immediately offers a smaller number as the alternative.

  2. Your coffee is not the problem. The 400 a month you never look at is the problem.

    Why it works. Defends the audience against the most tired advice in the category, which buys enormous goodwill in one line.

  3. Saving 50 a month for 30 years beats saving 500 a month for 3, and it is not close.

    Why it works. A comparison the viewer wants to argue with, and the arithmetic is genuinely surprising when it is shown.

  4. Most money advice is written for people with 2 incomes and no dependants.

    Why it works. Names who the advice excludes. Everybody excluded by it will stay, and they are the larger audience.

  5. A pay rise you did not plan for is gone in 2 months. Every time, for everyone.

    Why it works. The absolute claim is the risk and the reason it works. It dares the viewer to find their exception.

  6. You do not need to earn more. You need to know what 1 number is, today.

    Why it works. Withholds the number, which is the entire reason to watch the rest.

  7. Cash in a current account is losing you money quietly, about 5 pounds in every 100 a year.

    Why it works. Quantifies an invisible loss in units the viewer can picture, which is what makes an abstract point urgent.

  8. The best financial decision I made was boring: 1 standing order, set in 2019, never touched.

    Why it works. Anti-drama is itself a hook in a category built on drama, and the date makes it verifiable-sounding.

  9. Nobody got wealthy from a spreadsheet. They got wealthy from 1 decision repeated 300 times.

    Why it works. Replaces the tool the audience is avoiding with a behaviour they can start, and puts a count on it.

  10. Debt is not a moral failure. It is arithmetic, and arithmetic can be rearranged in 1 afternoon.

    Why it works. Removes shame and offers a timeframe in the same breath, which is the fastest route from guilt to action.
